31 : How to Praise Śrīla Prabhupāda

How to praise Śrīla Prabhupāda? Every book distributed, every temple opened, every ārati offered, every purī cooked, every floor cleaned, every mantra chanted, and every activity in the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement perpetuates and expands Prabhupāda’s glories. He started this movement, so let us spread it more and more as he desired. In that way Śrīla Prabhupāda will be known and appreciated more and more.

Often the members of ISKCON are praised. Especially Hindus, the modern-day adherents of Vedic culture, appreciate the followers of Śrīla Prabhupāda for their dedication, strictness, learning, and other devotional qualities. Prabhupāda was always pleased when “outsiders” praised his disciples, for it indicated that his movement was becoming successful. Yet his disciples know that praise of them is really meant for Śrīla Prabhupāda, for without him we are nothing.

Prabhupāda wanted his followers to behave in such an exemplary manner that eventually they would become accepted as ideal spiritual leaders. So an important way to praise Śrīla Prabhupāda is simply to become ideal. On the other hand, if we misbehave, that will be a disservice. Although his own character is impeccable, misconduct of his followers reflects badly on Śrīla Prabhupāda.
